Using a WordPress theme to create a website has it’s pros and cons.  The main disadvantage being that it won’t be a bespoke design and could be used by other businesses on the web.  Some themes are more popular than others.  But WordPress themes can be a super-fast and cheap way to create a website.

Here are three free WordPress themes that I think create a smart online presence:

1.Swatch (Woo Themes)

This is Woo Themes 100th theme release and that is why they decided to make it free.

This is the most customizable of the three themes here. With the option to change the colours of most elements of the page, including background colour, links colours and many other options.

The portfolio page is also gorgeous, so ideal for any businesses that need a gallery page to showcase their work.

2. Parallax (MediaLoot)

Another great theme for any one wanting to use lots of images in their website.

Again a slider is featured but this site is not so easy to customise and apart from uploading your slider images and changing the buttons, the only other way you can edit the appearance is to upload code, so this can only be done by those able to use HTML and CSS.

The theme can be downloaded here (a pop up will ask you to sign up but you can ignore this and click on the link at the bottom of pop-up saying ‘No thanks, I just want to download this one’.

3. Nitrogenate (Padd Solutions)

Another professional-looking theme with slider and widget areas.

This theme has a slightly more corporate feel and may be ideal for businesses with few images but unfortunately it doesn’t have any real style options.
